Chiefs vs. Cowboys final score, results: Dak Prescott, star receivers shine on Thanksgiving, dampen Kansas City's playoff hopes image

JUMP TO:

The more time that passes, the more likely it appears Patrick Mahomes will not be playoff-bound for the first time in his star-studded career. If that winds up being the case, the Kansas City Chiefs' Thanksgiving loss may, in hindsight, be one of the turning points of their 2025 season.

The Dallas Cowboys held on late for a 31-28 victory on Thursday's holiday, as Dak Prescott bounced back from a first-drive interception to lead three touchdown drives against the defending AFC champions. In Mahomes' first-ever game at AT&T Stadium, he was narrowly outclassed by Prescott despite throwing four touchdown passes and keeping the Chiefs within striking range.

Dallas fell behind early on Thanksgiving, as Prescott's interception allowed Mahomes to spark his connection with Rashee Rice (8 catches, 92 yards, 2 TDs) and build an advantage. But the Cowboys' own star receivers, CeeDee Lamb (7 catches, 112 yards, 1 TD) and George Pickens (6 catches, 88 yards), paved the way as the team picked up nine third-downs, brought pressure on Mahomes and totaled over 450 yards on the afternoon.

Brian Schottenheimer's unit used three sacks and some timely Chiefs penalties to hold on in the fourth quarter, icing the game with a Prescott-to-Pickens completion. Dallas has now won three-straight games and is inching back into the NFC playoff picture, including wins over last year's Super Bowl squads. Meanwhile, Kansas City is in serious danger of missing the playoffs for the first time since 2014, barring a red-hot finish to the regular season.

Chiefs vs. Cowboys live updates, highlights from NFL Thanksgiving game

All times ET.

7:58 p.m. —  That's it. The Cowboys secure a huge Thanksgiving win with clutch fourth-quarter plays, and Pickens' catch sealed it. The Chiefs are in very, very dangerous territory of missing the 2025 playoffs at.500 through Week 13, while Dallas inches closer to the wild card spots.

Dak Prescott had 320 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in the win.

7:55 p.m. —  George Pickens may have just iced it. At the two minute warning, he makes a 13-yard grab on third down to move the chains. The Cowboys are in full control, and the Chiefs have no timeouts.

7:52 p.m. —  Another Dallas first down on pass interference. The Cowboys can win this game by running the clock down.

7:50 p.m. —  Pass interference moves the chains for the Cowboys once, with just over three minutes remaining.

Cowboys 31, Chiefs 28

7:47 p.m. TOUCHDOWN —  This game is not over yet. The Chiefs are back within three, as Mahomes quickly drives them down the field, then hits Hollywood Brown for a toe-tap touchdown catch. Mahomes has four touchdown passes in Dallas.

7:41 p.m. —  A 13-yard play to Kelce and a wide-open Xavier Worthy for 42 yards has the Chiefs quickly in striking range.

Cowboys 31, Chiefs 21

7:39 p.m. FIELD GOAL —  Again, Aubrey connects for the short-range field goal, and it's a 10-point lead for the Cowboys on Thanksgiving, despite the near-turnovers.

7:37 p.m. —  Dallas pulled within 15 yards of the end zone, but mismanaged its opportunity for a touchdown. An incompletion, near-interception then a Pickens fumble that was recovered by the Cowboys leads to 4th & Goal.

7:34 p.m. —  Right off the bat, Prescott goes deep for Lamb and gets a 51-yard completion. Dallas can make it a two-score game with time starting to tick away.

7:27 p.m. —  The Chiefs punt with under 10 minutes remaining, unable to overcome a 10-yard penalty. Rashee Rice lost a target right out of his hands on 3rd & 8 that would've picked up the first down, and the Cowboys will take over with the lead.

Cowboys 28, Chiefs 21

7:20 p.m. TOUCHDOWN —  Another lead change. The Cowboys reclaim the advantage on a short touchdown pass from Prescott to Javonte Williams, and George Pickens caps his excellent drive with a 2-point conversion. Dallas is up by a touchdown.

7:16 p.m. —  That's nasty, George Pickens. The star receiver has had a quiet day, but he rips off a 39-yard catch-and-run that included a full-on leap over a Chiefs defender. Talk about a hurdle.

7:13 p.m. —  Two starting offensive lineman have been ruled out for Kansas City.

Chiefs 21, Cowboys 20

7:08 p.m. TOUCHDOWN —  Andy Reid got gutsy in Dallas on Thanksgiving. He went for a 4th & Goal down six points, and Patrick Mahomes rewards him with a three-yard pass in the end zone to Rashee Rice. The Chiefs take the lead.

End of third quarter: Cowboys 20, Chiefs 14

7:04 p.m. —  Just as the third quarter comes to an end, Mahomes hits Rice on 2nd & Goal, and the receiver nearly coughed the ball up for a turnover. However, he was ruled down prior to losing the ball, and the Chiefs will get at least one more shot to take the lead to begin the final frame.

7:01 p.m. —  A 28-yard Rashee Rice catch gets the Chiefs moving quickly following the field goal.

Cowboys 20, Chiefs 14

6:54 p.m. FIELD GOAL —  Dallas can't get into the end zone after appearing to do so with the Ferguson play. Instead, Aubrey nails another field goal to make it a six-point lead.

6:50 p.m. —  The Cowboys, partially thanks to a 32-yard pass interference call, are on the verge of more points to extend their advantage. Jake Ferguson appeared to snag a touchdown pass, but upon further review, he did not get a second foot into the end zone.

6:41 p.m. —  Mahomes' pass sails high for Rashee Rice on third down. Again, the Chiefs will punt early in the third quarter, unable to capitalize on an opportunity to tie or reclaim the lead.

6:34 p.m. — Some of the key stats in this game so far:

  • The Cowboys are 5-for-9 on third downs
  • Kansas City has 94 rushing yards to Dallas' 79, but the Cowboys have 160 yards through the air
  • The Cowboys have two sacks, the Chiefs have none
  • Patrick Mahomes has just 13 pass attempts, but they've gone for 10 completions, 100 yards and two touchdowns

6:33 p.m. —  Nothing's doin' for Dallas offensively to begin the third quarter, either. Both teams have punted to open the second half.

6:27 p.m. — The Chiefs go three-and-out, but get an excellent punt to pin the Cowboys inside their 5-yard line.

6:23 p.m. —  Kansas City will start the second half with the ball.

6:04 p.m. —  Now, Post Malone will take the stage in Dallas. Follow along with the halftime performance here.

Halftime: Cowboys 17, Chiefs 14

6:02 p.m. —  At the break, the Cowboys lead by three thanks to Dak Prescott's turnaround since a first-drive interception. He's dealt for 160 yards, while Malik Davis' breakaway touchdown gave Dallas the lead. While the Chiefs have found some success moving the ball, sacks and penalties have held them back in a brewing shootout.

6:01 p.m. —  Penalties and another sack result in the Chiefs punting the ball away before halftime. They're unable to tie or take the lead before the break.

5:56 p.m. —  The Chiefs are trying to get some points with the first-half clock winding down. They have 90 rushing yards already today.

Cowboys 17, Chiefs 14

5:44 p.m. TOUCHDOWN —  It took the Cowboys just eight plays to drive 85 yards, and it's capped off by a 43-yard touchdown run from Malik Davis. The running back gives Dallas its first lead of the game after the early interception.

That's Davis' first touchdown since 2022.

5:37 p.m. —  The Chiefs punt for the first time today, and the Cowboys will have a chance to take the lead with a touchdown.

5:34 p.m. —  The Cowboys pressure a scrambling Mahomes on 2nd & 19, and Jadeveon Clowney takes down the quarterback for a loss of seven. Brian Schottenheimer's defense has a chance to force the first punt of the game.

Chiefs 14, Cowboys 10

5:23 p.m. FIELD GOAL —  Brandon Aubrey connects from 49 yards out after the Dallas offense stalls out. It's a four-point advantage for the Chiefs.

5:20 p.m. —  Now in the second quarter, the Cowboys go for a 4th & 4, and it works out as Jake Ferguson makes a key grab. Dallas has some momentum as it looks to again tie this game.

End of first quarter: Chiefs 14, Cowboys 7

5:11 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Four drives, three touchdowns in this game. Mahomes puts the Chiefs back on top on 4th & Goal, finding Travis Kelce in the back of the end zone. Just as the first quarter comes to a close, Kansas City keeps its offense hot with another score.

5:09 p.m. —  Patrick Mahomes does it with his legs to put the Chiefs back in the red zone.

5:03 p.m. —  Have fun trying to defend CeeDee Lamb one-on-one.

Chiefs 7, Cowboys 7

4:59 p.m. TOUCHDOWN —  How's that for an answer? Prescott drives Dallas right back down the field after his early mistake, finding CeeDee Lamb for a 15-yard touchdown pass. Lamb has four catches already, and we're tied at seven.

4:57 p.m. —  Chris Jones is making his presence known early.

4:52 p.m. —  Prescott has the Cowboys' offense clicking again after the interception, into Chiefs territory with five completions.

Chiefs 7, Cowboys 0

4:46 p.m. TOUCHDOWN —  Just like that, the Chiefs are on top. Minutes ago, the Cowboys began with the ball, but Prescott's interception directly leads to a 27-yard touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes to Rashee Rice. It's 7-0 Kansas City.

4:43 p.m. — Just a few plays into the matchup, and we have a turnover. Dak Prescott throws a pick, as Jaylen Watson intercepts his pass intended for George Pickens. Patrick Mahomes quickly gets the ball.

4:41 p.m. —  The Cowboys will begin Thanksgiving with the football.

4:34 p.m. —  Who's ready for Thanksgiving game No. 2?

4:14 p.m. —  It's almost game time in Dallas.

3:46 p.m. —  Here are the Cowboys' inactives today.

3:32 p.m. —  Here's Dak Prescott's arrival for a big Thanksgiving matchup.

3:30 p.m. —  Here are the Chiefs' inactives today.

3:25 p.m. —  Jerry Jones has arrived.
