Canadians to win a Super Bowl: Kansas City Chiefs' Laurent Duvernay-Tardif joins exclusive list image

Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman Laurent Duvernay-Tardif is a Super Bowl champion.

The Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Que., native is the ninth Canadian to win the Vince Lombardi Trophy and the 16th Canadian-born player to take the field in the championship game.

The first medical doctor ever to play in a Super Bowl, he is the first Canadian to play for the title since Jon Ryan, Luke Willson and the Seattle Seahawks lost to the New England Patriots in February 2015. Before Duvernay-Tardif's win, the pair were also the last Canadians to win the Super Bowl when they won the previous year against Denver.

Duvernay-Tardif's backup Ryan Hunter, who was listed as inactive for the game, is also Canadian and hails from North Bay, Ont.
