Did Baker Mayfield's family lawsuit impact his net worth?

In 2024, Baker, his wife Emily and Team BRM filed a lawsuit against Camwood Capital Management Group and other companies that they claimed took $12 million from the Mayfields without their consent or any plan to pay them back between 2018 and 2021.

According to the suit, Camwood used the Mayfields' money to pay off other business obligations, like payroll, without first explaining or giving the Mayfields any incentives. Additionally, once the Mayfields discovered this, the company "attempted to obscure the relevant information, avoided Plaintiffs' inquiries, and invented fictional explanations for their actions," per ESPN.

While the two sides reached a settlement in January of 2024 that would require Camwood to pay back the Mayfields, it had not done so as of the end of 2024. Therefore, the lawsuit is still ongoing, so it is unclear how this will impact Mayfield's finances one way or another moving forward.

Baker Mayfield endorsements

Mayfield became a household name in college, when he was a star at Oklahoma who won the Heisman Trophy. Therefore, once he entered the NFL and began signing endorsement deals, he leaned on his family and team to help him.

"Protecting the money we're earning is No. 1. I've always been one to save it," Mayfield told The Athletic in 2019.. "For me, it's protecting the money by surrounding yourself with good people."

Mayfield's older brother, Matt Mayfield, is one person who Baker leans on with his endorsement deals.

"Once Baker’s brand started to get elevated at Oklahoma, the whole family started to think about the broader long term," Matt said. "We decided that we could, with help of an agent, bring a lot of Baker's operations in house. For someone like Baker or another athlete of that caliber, not just in the NFL, that has those kinds of endorsements and contracts, it requires a whole team. What we already had in place, and what a lot of people don’t realize, is we had that prior to the NFL even being a thought."

A list of companies that Mayfield has endorsed over the years includes:

  • Bud Light
  • Progressive
  • Hulu
  • Nissan
  • Bose
  • Bodyarmor
  • Panini America
  • Nike
  • HydroHoist
  • Allen Edmonds
  • Amazon Web Services

While he was the Browns' quarterback, Mayfield starred in several Progressive commercials that aired over the course of multiple years.

However, after Mayfield left Cleveland, whose home stadium includes a Progressive sponsorship, the quarterback's endorsement deal with Progressive also ended.

"As his career started in the NFL, we began to grow that and the infrastructure internally at Camwood," Matt Mayfield told The Athletic in 2019. "We target early stage growth companies where we think our brand and Baker's brand can add value and help the companies grow. We try to look where we think we can add value as investors, operators and advisors. We're leveraging the collective power of Baker's fanbase and market reach to help these portfolio companies."

Baker himself said he is very careful about which companies in which to invest or to endorse.

"(It’s) being authentic. Being who I am is something I pride myself on each day," he said. "It's got to have a real relationship, both ways."
