Geno Smith and Trey Lance

The Seahawks and 49ers provided two of the biggest surprises in Week 1 — the former in a good way and the latter in a not-so-good way. Now, the division rivals both have something to prove as they prepare to face off in Week 2.

The Seahawks got revenge on their former star quarterback Russell Wilson to open the season, upsetting the Broncos 17-16 on "Monday Night Football". Geno Smith impressed in his first game as the QB1 in Seattle, quieting his doubters with two touchdown passes and a 119.5 passer rating.

Still, they needed the Broncos to squander a great chance at victory. Denver was driving down the field in the final minute down by just one point, but some bizarre play-calling — particularly a decision to try a 64-yard field goal rather than go for it on fourth and 5 — allowed Seattle to escape with a narrow win.

On the other side, the 49ers are coming off a disappointing opening-weekend loss to the Bears at a soggy Soldier Field.

Trey Lance's tenure as starting quarterback got off to a rough start, with the North Dakota State product completing just 13 of 28 passes for 164 yards and an interception. The wet weather in Chicago certainly didn't help the young QB, but he'll still need to improve quickly if the Niners want to live up to the hype following their NFC Championship game run last season.

Lance also wasn't helped out by a number of sloppy 49ers penalties, two of which kept the Bears on the field on eventual scoring drives.
