California dreaming.

It's been a dream start to Justin Herbert's career, but the third-year passer hasn't exactly reached the highs of his first two seasons just yet; some of that is due to inconsistency, some has been coaching, but a lot has been due to injury. Still, the Chargers sit at 5-3 and within a game of the division lead entering Week 10.

It's been hardly the season that the Chargers or the 49ers envisioned, but for different reasons. The 49ers didn't think they'd have to turn back to Jimmy Garoppolo, but the nightmare Week 1 injury to Trey Lance has been mitigated with Jimmy GQ retaking the reins.

It helps that Garoppolo has help: With Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, George Kittle and, now, Christian McCaffrey helping push along Kyle Shanahan's offense, the 49ers are looking as dangerous as ever as the season flips to the second half.
