The New York Jets got Adonai Mitchell almost as a throw-in.
Their trade for Sauce Gardner likely would've been complete even with just two first-round picks coming from the Indianapolis Colts.
But the former top draft prospect Mitchell came to the Jets in the trade, too.
The talented and speedy wide receiver hadn't made his mark in Indy, and this was a chance at a fresh start.
But when inactives came out Sunday before the Jets' Week 10 game against the Browns, Mitchell's was on the list as a player that is out.
His debut will have to wait.

Why isn't Adonai Mitchell playing today?
Mitchell isn't playing because the Jets chose to make him inactive.
He wasn't dealing with an injury, so this is evidently a choice about Mitchell's readiness to play.
ESPN's Rich Cimini pointed out on X that two other trade acquisitions are suiting up for the Jets as active on Sunday in the form of WR John Metchie and DT Mazi Smith.
There likely won't be any more clarity on Mitchell's absence until postgame press conferences.
