The New York Jets shocked the football world at the trade deadline when they traded away defensive cornerstones Quinnen Williams and Sauce Gardner.
Williams made sense, as one of the longest-tenured Jets and coming up on a contract extension. But Gardner, whom New York has just made the highest-paid cornerback in football, was a complete surprise.
The newest Indianapolis Colt met with the media for the first time on Thursday and opened up regarding the trade.

Sauce Gardner breaks silence on Jets-Colts trade
"I mean, it was a great situation for me... I just got a call from [Jets GM] Mougey, You know, obviously, the trade deadline was coming up, so I was just like, 'Please let it be like my ideal situation. I don't wanna go to a losing team. I don't wanna go to a team that's like on the other side of the world,'" Gardner said via Kevin Bowen.
"Obviously, I got drafted there [New York] and everything like that, but so it was like this was a great situation. Knowing a few guys on the team already. Being closer to home, being closer to where I went to college, like God keep blessing me, you know what I mean... So it just worked out perfect."
Gardner is obviously happy with his new team, and it's important to note that the Jets did right by their former players, sending them to positive situations.
Williams reportedly wanted to be a Dallas Cowboy, and Gardner is pleased with being a Colt.
Now, New York will need to find some replacements for their defensive stalwarts.
