Nick Mangold, a three-time All-Pro center and member of the New York Jets Ring of Honor, died on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2025. He was 41 years old.
The Jets announced Mangold's passing along with a statement from owner Woody Johnson and vice chairman Christopher Johnson on Sunday. The sports world mourned the loss, as the news was met with profound sadness from many who were familiar with the retired lineman.

For over a decade, he anchored our offensive line with unmatched skill and determination, earning the respect of teammates, opponents, and fans alike. His contributions on the field were extraordinary — but it was his character, humility, and humor off the field that made him unforgettable.
Nick Mangold cause of death
Mangold died from complications of kidney disease. On Tuesday, Oct. 14, Mangold shared a letter on social media that detailed what he has dealt with.
"In 2006, I was diagnosed with a genetic defect that has led to chronic kidney disease," Mangold wrote.
He added that he was undergoing dialysis treatments and, for perspective, said "This situation has reminded me how lucky I am to have such an amazing family, friends, and community behind me."

Mangold's letter outlined that he needed a kidney transplant from a donor with type O blood. He was in search of a donor because no one in his family was able to donate at the time of need.
Mangold died 11 days after reaching out in search of a donor.
