The New York Jets and their passing game have been non-existent through the 2025 season, but specifically over the last two weeks. This lack of ability to get yards through the air has caused Jets fans to beg for a change at quarterback, and they have finally gotten what they wanted.

Per Dianna Russini of The Athletic the Jets are benching Fields in favor of Tyrod Taylor.

"The Jets are making a quarterback change, benching Justin Fields in favor of veteran Tyrod Taylor, per source," Russini reports on X. "New York faces Baltimore in Week 12 and ranks last in the league in passing yards per game."

This came after Fields put up another woeful performance against the New England Patriots on Thursday night, going 15-of-26 for just 116 yards. And despite the Jets defeating the Cleveland Browns in Week 10, Fields was down right awful. He completed just six passes for 54 yards in the win, as New York largely relied on the ground game. New York ran the ball 33 times and had Fields attempt just 11 passes in the win.

And while many will point out the fact that the Jets had two special teams touchdowns, and argue that the run game was working so there was no reason to throw the ball a ton, this is far from the only example that Fields played to such a poor degree. In Week 2, Fields finished with 27 yards passing against the Buffalo Bills. For reference, Josh Allen had to leave the game for a play, and Mitch Trubisky came in and completed a pass for 32 yards.

In terms of Tyrod Taylor, he's appeared in three games this season for the Jets, starting the team's Week 3 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He went 26-of-36 for 197 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in the game. He also came in in relief of Fields against the Bills and against the Carolina Panthers. In totality this season, Taylor has three touchdown passes and three interceptions on the season with a QBR of 36.6. He'll now get the nod against one of his former teams.
