Justin Fields sends blunt message in first comments since Jets benching image

The New York Jets made a quarterback change this week, benching Justin Fields ahead of the team's Week 12 matchup with the Baltimore Ravens.

Fields wasn't made available to the media this week, but was approached by the New York Post's Brian Costello at the team's facility and asked for his comments on the decision.

"There’s no reaction. That’s life. S— happens," Fields told Costello.

Costello provided further context on the short exchange between himself and the Jets quarterback.

"Approached Justin Fields at his locker. He said he was going to get a massage and did not have time to talk," Costello wrote on X.

Clearly, the former Ohio State star is disappointed in the coaching staff's decision to move him to the bench.

But it's not like they did it without good reason.

Fields has been one of the worst starting quarterbacks in football this year, completing 62.7% of his passes for 1,259 yards, tossing seven touchdowns and one interception.

The stats look fine on paper, but if you've watched the Jets with Fields under center this season, you'll understand the frustrations. His propensity to hold the football for too long and take sacks was maddening, and it led to the decision to start Taylor.

It remains to be seen what Fields' future is in the NFL, but his next stop will likely be as a second or third-string quarterback as a developmental project.
