The New York Jets need a quarterback, and there really isn’t much left to say about the situation.

If the Jets don’t find a quarterback within the next year, there’s a very good chance we’ll see another complete teardown, including moving on from head coach Aaron Glenn.

As of now, it feels safe to say the Jets don’t want that.

In order to avoid that scenario, the Jets will likely have to trade up to the top pick to land the quarterback they want. It remains uncertain who the Jets are targeting, but Fernando Mendoza is clearly viewed as the top option available.

Bleacher Nation’s Matt Rooney believes the Jets will have to trade for the first overall pick, predicting they would do so with the New York Giants. The move would land Mendoza, but there’s more to consider beyond that.

“If the Giants end up with the top pick, they will almost certainly deal it. I’m sure they’d rather not trade it across town, but the Jets need a QB and are armed with extra first-rounders after selling at the deadline. After Mendoza’s big win over Ohio State, he’s probably the top QB on the board, but that is very subject to change in the coming months,” he wrote

As a result, the Jets would give the Giants the fifth overall pick and much more, allowing them to draft arguably the best player on the board in Carnell Tate.

While the Jets need someone like Mendoza, and other teams will likely prioritize quarterbacks ahead of the Giants, it could leave the Giants in a position to land an elite skill player.

Rooney predicted the Giants would do so by selecting Tate out of Ohio State.

“It might be a bit early, but Carnell Tate is a high-end wide receiver who thrives as a deep-ball threat. Putting him in the same offense as Malik Nabers feels like a win for the Giants and their young quarterback.” He added.
