There are a lot of offseason decisions coming for the New York Jets in the coming months. One of the more important is what the team does at the quarterback position.
They can't roll into 2026 with Justin Fields as the starter, as the $40 million experiment was a complete failure. Instead, they could sign a veteran, draft a rookie, or trade for someone another team is looking to move on from.
That final solution is what ESPN's Aaron Schatz predicts the Jets will do this offseason. But, Schatz predicts the QB the Jets will trade for is $230.5 million bust from the Arizona Cardinals, Kyler Murray.
Jets predicted to trade for Kyler Murray
"The Jets will trade for Kyler Murray and give him his second chance in the NFL," Schatz predicts. "... A trade for Murray's big contract would likely cost very little in draft capital."
The Jets need to figure out their quarterback position this offseason, and after missing out on the top draft pick in the 2026 NFL Draft and likely Fernando Mendoza, they could then turn to a new quarterback option a lot more easily.
Murray is a potential trade option, and for the Jets, he could be acquired for very little. Not many teams would want to trade for Murray, especially considering his massive $230 million contract.
But the Jets, with money to spare, could easily fit his contract on their books, and with an out after 2026, the Jets could save nearly $30 million next offseason if he doesn't work out in 2026.

It's a one-year rental that, if it works, could turn into a major steal for the Jets this offseason. Of course, there is some risk if the draft capital isn't as light as Schatz indicates, but if it's a day-three pick, then it might not be a bad idea for the Jets.
He's a two-time Pro Bowler, and while he's been a bust for the Cardinals in recent years, he's been a decent to good quarterback at times in his career.
It might not be pretty, but with a ton of cap space to work with, taking a flier on Murray and his potential isn't the worst option for the Jets this offseason.
This prediction from Schatz would make for a fascinating offseason move. Darren Mougey and Aaron Glenn would have Fields and Murray as their starters in back-to-back seasons, a decision that could jeopardize their jobs if it goes poorly next season.
