Jets make major Tanner Engstrand decision after brutal 2025 season image

The New York Jets 2025 season was a complete disaster. Not only did they have some of the worst statistics in the league, but they also missed out on the first overall pick and Fernando Mendoza.

But a new quarterback isn't all the Jets are looking for. They also fired Steve Wilks, the defensive coordinator, among a slew of other coach firings.

That's not all, however, as the Jets and Aaron Glenn made a major decision shortly after Championship Sunday, as, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the Jets are parting ways with their offensive coordinator.

Jets part ways with Tanner Engstrand after 1 year

"The Jets are parting ways with OC Tanner Engstrand, per me and @TomPelissero," Rapoport.

This is a significant update on the Jets' coaching staff. Engstrand was initially expected to stay with the team this offseason, though in a limited role compared to what he did a year ago.

But, following a discussion with Glenn, Engstrand, and the Jets are mutually parting ways, and the Jets will now have to search for a new offensive coordinator.

With Glenn being a defensive-minded head coach, this split this late in the offseason is a major piece of news. The new OC will call plays and be the top offensive mind on staff next season for the Jets. It's a big role to fill.

The Jets will now have a severely late jump at finding a new coach to call the offense. There are some interesting names still available, but compared to if they had fired him right after the season ended, this late decision doesn't bode well.

Glenn's first year with the Jets has not gone to plan, and this late offensive coordinator opening is further proof that the Jets are not in a great spot as a franchise.

Moving on from Engstrand wasn't a major surprise, but the timing of the move is what has been a troublesome outcome for the Jets.
