The New York Jets 2025 season was one of the worst in recent years. They didn't have much of an offense all year long, were blown out by historic proportions to end the year, didn't intercept a single pass, and their leading receiver last caught a pass in October.

So much went wrong that the staff changes were not a surprise. But, with Steve Wilks getting fired from the defensive coordinator job, and now, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, Tanner Engstrand getting fired, things have a different tune.

Aaron Glenn's first year didn't go well, but this coaching staff turnover is a terrible look for the Jets. Will Glenn have success as a head coach? These firings don't bode well for his success in the NFL, especially after just one year.

Connor Hughes of SNY on Twitter/x nicely summarized how bad things look for Glenn:

"I don't know if I can recall a head coach moving on from his offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator, and a large chunk of his positional coaches after one season, then finding success."

Glenn's coaching staff looks incredibly different after just one year, and not because they've been poached. Year one for Glenn didn't go well, and he's now moved on from more than seven coaches this offseason.

It's not just one side of the ball either; offensive and defensive coaches are no longer with the team. It's a mass exodus from the Jets staff, and the most recent firing of Engstrand is the worst look yet.

Parting with Engstrand is an issue, but not the reason why this move is bad. It's the timing of things. The Jets now will need to get a new playcaller on offense, and they're the latest team to join the hiring process.

Every other team in need of a new playcaller has already talked to high-level candidates and is building a list of options. The Jets, while they were interviewing for a playcaller role already, it wasn't as clear-cut as it is now.

They're getting a late start to hiring an offensive coordinator, and moving on from Engstrand the way that Glenn did is a terrible look for the rookie head coach.

Glenn is on the hot seat, and barring a significant turnaround after next season, he might be out after just two years, if not in the middle of the season.
