The New York Jets spent $40 million on Justin Fields this past offseason, and while he's shown some promise at times, the offense has overall been lackluster.

Coming off another rough game against the New England Patriots, despite an impressive first drive, Fields' future as the team's starting quarterback was once again very much in doubt.

And now, according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Jets are finally making the quarterback switch from Fields to Tyrod Taylor for their Week 12 game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Jets reportedly making a huge Justin Fields benching decision

"The Jets are making a quarterback change, benching Justin Fields in favor of veteran Tyrod Taylor, per source," Russini reports.

This is a huge change for the Jets. Despite Aaron Glenn's intention to keep the team's starting quarterback under wraps, Russini is reporting very early in the week that the Jets are making a change.

Glenn has been trying to deflect from making a change for most of the year, but after the tough Week 11 game, he was a bit more open to the potential switch.

Now, the Jets are finally making the change, shifting to Taylor after Fields has started the majority of the season.

Fields went 15/26 for 116 yards and one touchdown against the Patriots, along with a brutal fumble late in the game to cement a loss for the Jets against their division rival.

As a starter, Fields has 1,259 passing yards in nine starts with seven touchdowns and one interception.

While he wasn't turning the ball over a lot, his lackluster passing performances have forced the Jets' hand. Fields, in three of his last five starts, had under 55 passing yards.

This is a huge change for the Jets to make, as Fields is getting benched, officially ending the $40 million experiment this season. Taylor, the 36-year-old journeyman, takes over for the Jets starting in Week 12 against the Ravens.
