The New York Jets, after a brutal Week 11 performance from Justin Fields, are benching the $40 million quarterback and making the switch to veteran Tyrod Taylor.
This was a move weeks in the making, as the Jets nearly made the switch for their Week 8 game against the Cincinnati Bengals. While this is a big move, how long will the Jets stick with Taylor as the starter?
According to ESPN's Dan Graziano, the Jets are not making this decision to bench Fields lightly. Aaron Glenn and the Jets are making this move not just for Week 12, but for the rest of the season.
Justin Fields getting benched won't be a short-term solution for the Jets
"The move is not expected to be temporary." Graziano writes. "Unless Taylor gets injured (which he has some history of doing), I don't get the sense the Jets will go back to Fields this season."
New York, after nine weeks of Fields as the starter, is making the switch to Taylor, and it's set to be a permanent one.
There are a few reasons why the Jets made this decision. While the struggles of Fields as a passer are a clear reason why, the Jets also want to see what their young receivers look like.

Adonai Mitchell, John Metchie, and Mason Taylor won't get much work if Fields is the starter. But with Taylor in there, they should see a decent volume of work every week.
The Jets are in the middle of a lost season at 2-8, and especially after their sell-off at the trade deadline, there's no reason not to get a look at the young players on the roster.
For the rest of he 2025 season, the Jets are going to stick with Fields on the bench and Taylor in the starting lineup, barring any injuries.
The Justin Fields era in New York is coming to an end after nine starts, and three of his last four games have gone under 55 passing yards.
