The New York Jets face several uncertainties in 2026, but the biggest one may be at quarterback.
Justin Fields has struggled this year, to say the least, and New York is going to need to find itself a new signal caller at season's end.
Whether that's through the draft or by acquiring a new veteran, the Jets have a couple of options available to them. But one analyst thinks there's a veteran out there who could be the perfect stopgap in 2026.
Connor Rogers tabs Mac Jones as Jets QB option in 2026
Connor Rogers, a Jets fan and NFL analyst, pitched the idea of the current San Francisco 49ers backup quarterback, Mac Jones, as the Jets starter in 2026.
"There are a lot of variables for the #Jets QB pursuit in the 2026 class (who declares, where they pick and if they take one, how much time will that player need before starting?)," wrote Rogers in a post on X.
"It would make sense for them to call about Mac Jones if he was made available this offseason."
While Jones isn't the sexiest option in terms of quarterbacks, he does provide a higher-floor play than what they've gotten from Fields this year.
In place of the injured Brock Purdy, the former first-round pick has started eight games, completing 69% of his passes for 2151 yards, 12 touchdowns, and six interceptions.
If the Jets opt not to draft a rookie quarterback in the 2026 NFL Draft, there would certainly be worse options to trot out than Jones next September.
