Insider suggests giving reps to Jets rookie QB image

Under first-year head coach Aaron Glenn, the New York Jets are still going through the same process that has taken place in years prior: struggling quarterback play.

Glenn has officially put his foot down and benched quarterback Justin Fields for their Week 12 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. This move hints that New York has given up on the process of Justin Fields.

So what exactly is the plan for the Jets moving forward? Whatever it is for the rest of 2025 may not be too exciting, but there are options. One of them could be taking a shot with a rookie quarterback.

Rosenblatt: Jets could look towards 2025 rookie QB Brady Cook

Bringing in other quarterback options has already taken place for the Jets, bringing in both Desmond Ridder and Dorian Thompson-Robinson for workouts. Their stays were short, as New York committed to undrafted free agent Brady Cook and let the other two walk.

Cook, 24, has been on the Jets' practice squad all season. The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt believes that New York could use him as an option at some point this season.

"(Tyrod) Taylor, of course, also isn’t a long-term option at quarterback and isn’t even under contract for 2026. At this point the Jets would be smart to see what they have in undrafted rookie Brady Cook, who is on the practice squad. Elevating Cook to No. 2 would create the possibility that the rookie plays if Taylor gets hurt again," Rosenblatt wrote.

The Missouri alum appeared in all three of the Jets' preseason games, completing 25 of 38 pass attempts for 235 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

There's no say in what coach Glenn will do while showing all the signs of already giving up on this season.

With there being no exact direction in where the Jets are heading at quarterback, Brady Cook could be getting a chance at some point.
