Garrett Wilson injury update: New York Jets' star wideout off to bad start for Week 7 image

An already shaky New York Jets wide receivers room looks primed to take a big hit in Week 7 thanks to an injury to Garrett Wilson.

Wilson suffered a knee injury in the Week 6 loss to the Denver Broncos in London that forced him to exit the field on multiple occasions. While he was ultimately able to finish the game, it was clear he wasn't 100%.

Now, we turn our focus to Week 7. Wilson's status for the contest against the Carolina Panthers is very much up in the air and an update from the team on Wednesday didn't help.

Garrett Wilson injury update

According to Jets head coach Aaron Glenn, Wilson will not practice on Wednesday.

"When it comes to the injuries, we have four guys that basically have the same designation, which is Garrett [Wilson], Stiggers, Cam Jones and Josh Reynolds" Glenn said. "All those guys will be out today. We'll see how those guys progress during the week."

This obviously puts Wilson on track to sit out this week, and the expectation is that will happen.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that not only could Wilson miss this week, he could be out for multiple games due to a hyperextended knee.

"An MRI today revealed that Jets WR Garrett Wilson hyperextends his knee and he now is expected to miss, as one source said, 'a couple of weeks,'" Schefter said.

If that timeline holds up, we might not see Wilson again until Week 10, as the Jets have a bye in Week 9.

The Jets' wide receivers situation is a total mess. On top of injuries to Wilson and Reynolds, there is no telling if Allen Lazard will play this week after he was ruled out in Week 6 due to a personal issue.

If all three are out, the Jets will have to lean heavily on rookie Arian Smith, who has just four catches for 24 yards.

New York also has Tyler Johnson on the 53-man roster and Isaiah Williams, Brandon Smith, Quentin Skinner, Jamaal Pritchett and Trenton Irwin on the practice squad.

For an offense already struggling, this is just a disastrous situation.
