The New York Jets have undergone some massive changes this offseason, with the biggest being the hires of head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey.
The team ended the Aaron Rodgers experiment after two underwhelming seasons and brought in Justin Fields in hopes of finally fixing the quarterback position.
Before the 2025 season begins, though, the team could still make a big move or two. For example, running back Breece Hall is a player who could be a trade candidate at some point, per ESPN's Rich Cimini.
Hall is a former second-round pick who has been solid but not great in the NFL. Now, Hall is slated to hit free agency next offseason, and the Jets could be looking to get some value in a trade if they don't plan on re-signing him.
Anthony Palacios of LWOS believes the Dallas Cowboys could be a logical landing spot for Hall in a trade. Regarding that possibility, Palacios offered the following:
Meanwhile, the Dallas Cowboys have one of the worst running back units in football. Between Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams, 2025 draft pick Jaydon Blue has a lot more upside to be the long-term deal in Dallas. This isn’t to say Sanders or Williams don’t have a serious chance, but both are past their high level of play. Perhaps, they could trade for Hall to push the Cowboys if they find themselves in the thick of the playoff race.
As Palacios mentioned, the Cowboys have a weak running back unit and could potentially be interested in a player like Hall.
Currently, the Cowboys have veterans Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams, along with Deuce Vaughn and rookie Jaydon Blue, among others. None of those options inspire much confidence and none likely have as high an upside as Hall.
In 2024, Hall played in 16 games and rushed for 876 yards and five touchdowns. The running back also caught 57 passes for 483 yards and three more scores, showing an elite ability to contribute in both phases of the offense.
In Dallas, Hall would likely take over the starting job and the Cowboys would get the first chance to re-sign the running back when he hits free agency. Because of his expiring contract, the asking price from the Jets likely wouldn't be exorbitant.
Without Hall, the Jets could turn to Braelon Allen, who impressed in flashes as a rookie, rushing for 334 yards and collecting 148 receiving yards. The Jets could be fine rolling with Allen and getting some extra draft capital back for Hall.
