Adonai Mitchell or John Metchie? Fantasy outlook for Jets' new wide receivers image

The New York Jets pulled off a couple of trades by the NFL deadline, and while they sold exclusively from their defense, the offense in New York underwent some interesting changes.

John Metchie was traded from the Philadelphia Eagles, while Adonai Mitchell came from the Indianapolis Colts. Neither had a large role on their teams, but now in New York, things could look different.

But, as is the case with any recently acquired wide receiver, how much of an impact they will have is very much up in the air. And according to Aaron Glenn, the status of both is in question for Week 10.

Jets' new-look WR room, are Adonai Mitchell and John Metchie worth starting?

According to Rich Cimini of ESPN, Glenn is "non-committal" on whether Mitchell or Metchie will play in Week 10. It's not too surprising, as new wide receivers tend not to have instant impacts in the NFL the week after being traded.

For fantasy purposes in Week 10, neither is likely to be startable. But Glenn did praise both, which leaves open the door for Metchie or Mitchell to have an impact at some point this season.

"(Glenn) says Mitchell is 'a true X' receiver who can win 1 in 1s," Cimini reports. "Metchis is a 'master' route runner from the slot #Jets."

While Garrett Wilson is the clear number one in the room, Mitchell and Metchie might see some key work this season.

Metchie, if he resides in the slot, could be a full-PPR asset in deeper leagues. Mitchell, meanwhile, as an outside receiver, could see some big-play potential in the Jets' passing offense.

The starting quarterback does matter a lot for both of these receivers, as Tyrod Taylor would be a much better quarterback for both, as their volume would likely increase. Even with Justin Fields, the two new Jets receivers could have decent fantasy roles this season.

But, for now, fantasy managers can't start either. Mitchell and Metchie are fresh to the organization, and as Glenn shared, aren't even guaranteed to play in Week 10.

However, they are players to keep an eye on. As their playing time increases, and if Taylor becomes the starter, Mitchell or Metchie could emerge as a solid FLEX candidate in the second half of the season.
