Amid the flurry of deals the New York Jets made at the trade deadline, one seemed to have fallen between the cracks.
The team made a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, sending nickel cornerback Michael Carter II in exchange for a late-round pick swap and wide receiver John Metchie III.
The trade so far has worked out great for the Jets; they cut ties with a defender who wasn't getting much playing time in exchange for a young wideout who has made an impact early on in his tenure.
Aaron Glenn talks about John Metchie's early success
When speaking with the press at his Monday press conference, Jets head coach Aaron Glenn dedicated some time to speaking about Metchie's early impact.
"He's come from a program at Alabama that embedded in him on how he has to work. There's a lot that people really don't see behind closed doors, and he's here every morning at 6 o'clock in our indoor (practice field) catching 300 balls," Glenn revealed to the press.
"He had an ACL. He fought a battle with an illness and he's come back from all of those things. Success is in his future, no matter what he do. I'm not surprised at the success he's having right now."
In three games with the Jets, Metchie has been productive to say the least.
He's caught 10 balls for 113 yards and two touchdowns, providing some juice to a Jets receiving core that definitely needs it.
Metchie will be a restricted free agent at season's end, giving New York the choice if they want to keep him around or not.
If he keeps playing the way he has over the last two games, Metchie will certainly carve out a role for himself in 2026.
