The New York Jets were without veterans Tyrod Taylor and Justin Fields this past Sunday, leading to undrafted free agent rookie quarterback Brady Cook getting his first career NFL start.
Well, ahead of New York's Week 16 matchup against the New Orleans Saints, head coach Aaron Glenn announced at his Wednesday press conference that Cook is getting the starting nod for the second consecutive week, according to The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt.
"Brady Cook is still the Jets starting quarterback, Aaron Glenn said. Said he wants to continue to evaluate him," Rosenblatt wrote in a post on X.
Brady Cook to start against Saints for the second consecutive week
Earlier in the week, the Jets cut ties with practice squad quarterback Adrian Martinez, which some thought signaled the return of either Taylor or Fields.
While the return is still inevitable, it'll be as the backup behind Cook.
In two appearances this season, the former Missouri product has completed 57.1% of his passes for 339 yards, one touchdown, and five interceptions.
He'll have another opportunity against the Saints to show he has what it takes to play in this league.
"I feel like I'm going to continue to evaluate him and see exactly how he's going to operate on a consistent basis. And throughout the week, Tyrod and Justin, we'll see how they progress during the week to see who will actually be the two or the three," Glenn told reporters.
