Isaiah Hodgins wasn't a member of the New York Giants one week ago.

But on Sunday, he was out there catching five passes for 57 yards from Jameis Winston, including a couple of key first downs.

Now what? Is Hodgins all of a sudden the No. 1 WR in New York?

Maybe not so fast.

Hodgins was signed off the Pittsburgh Steelers' practice squad in part because he knows New York's system, and this was a quick turnaround.

The Giants saw a week looming in which Darius Slayton would have to miss out due to injury, so adding Hodgins helped fill that gap.

Presumably, a Slayton return would push Hodgins down the depth chart.

The Giants still have Wan'Dale Robinson, too, a consistent possession receiver.

In eight games with the Giants in 2022, Hodgins averaged 43 yards per game. That dropped to 13 yards per game in a full season in 2023.

Hodgins is a reliable player, but he likely will fade a bit into the shadows going forward, at least if the Giants get healthy.

That doesn't mitigate the fact that what he did on Sunday was pretty cool. It nearly led the Giants to an upset of the Green Bay Packers, but not quite.
