Two Giants coaches rumored as possible replacements for fired Shane Bowen image

The New York Giants have finally made the move fans have been waiting for.

Just weeks after now-former head coach Brian Daboll was axed, the Giants have now fired defensive coordinator Shane Bowen, according to several reports.

SNY's Connor Hughes reports that the Giants blowing their fifth fourth-quarter lead of the season on Sunday against the Detroit Lions was the final straw.

The firing comes just hours after interim head coach Mike Kafka expressed confidence in Bowen and his staff.

"I have a lot of confidence in Shane and his entire staff," Kafka said.

So much for that.

The Giants have not yet named a replacement, but Hughes believes outside linebackers coach Charlie Bullen will be a candidate for the interim job.

ESPN's Jordan Raanan echoes the suggestion of Bullen but thinks the Giants could use a combination of Bullen and defensive backs coach Marquand Manuel, also.

"Expecting OLB Charlie Bullen or some combination of Bullen and DB coach Marquand Manuel as the interim defensive coordinator in place of Bowen," he reported.

NFL insider Josina Anderson reports that the pick will indeed be Bullen.

"I’m told interim head coach Mike Kafka informed the coaches that outside linebackers coach Charlie Bullen will be the interim defensive coordinator," Anderson reported.

Bullen is in his second season as the Giants' outside linebackers coach and has 18 years of coaching experience in total, including 12 in the NFL.

Manuel has 13 years of coaching experience in the NFL and is in his first season in his current role. Prior to his stint with the Giants, Manuel spent four seasons as the defensive backs/safeties coach with the New York Jets.

We would expect the announcement for Bowen's replacement to come at some point on Monday, and if not by Tuesday at the latest.
