Russell Wilson has been in the NFL since 2012 with the Seattle Seahawks. After spending the 2012-2021 seasons with Seattle, he was traded to the Denver Broncos. He spent 2022 and 2023 with them before being released. Wilson was with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024.

He played the first three games with the New York Giants for the 2025 season, but he's been benched for rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart after the 0-3 start. This season, Wilson has completed 59.1% of his passes for 778 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions. He has also rushed for 94 yards on 16 carries and zero touchdowns, along with averaging 5.9 yards per carry. Despite his latest benching, is Wilson a future hall of famer?

Former NFL Player Doesn't Believe Russell Wilson is a Future Hall of Famer

One of the biggest topics that was discussed during Thursday night football was the Giants benching Wilson for Dart. Former NFL tight end Tony Gonzalez was on the broadcast. He is already in the hall of fame and discussed whether Wilson should be in the hall of fame or not. Gonzalez said,

"If ever there was somebody who played himself out of the hall of fame, it's Russell Wilson."

These are some strong words from the former all-time great tight end. They may be critical of him getting benched once again, but he has a good career and will be considered to get in.

In his career, he has played in 202 games. Wilson has thrown for 20 or more touchdowns in 11 of his 14 NFL seasons. He has thrown for 30 or more touchdowns in a season five times and has had four seasons of over 4,000 yards passing.

He may not be a first ballot hall of famer, but he has a good chance to make it down the road. Winning a Super Bowl title with the Seahawks during the 2013 season will help his cause. Throwing an interception on the goal line in the Super Bowl the season after against the New England Patriots may hurt his cause. Seattle should have handed the football off to Marshawn Lynch on the one-yard line anyways.

Wilson is going to have a polarizing case for the hall of fame. He is the best quarterback from his 2012 draft class and has been one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL during his prime years.
