The current expectation is that the New York Giants are going to add a wide receiver ahead of the Nov. 4 trade deadline.

While the Giants are sitting at 2-4 and don't have great prospects of making the playoffs, they do need more help for rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, whose development is paramount.

The idea that the Giants would be active for a wide receiver gained more steam when SNY's Connor Hughes reported that the team is "big-game hunting" for a wide receiver.

Hughes even named names, saying the New Orleans Saints' Chris Olave, the Miami Dolphins' Jaylen Waddle and the Las Vegas Raiders' Jakobi Meyers are potential targets for Big Blue.

However, The Athletic's Dianna Russini poured cold water on the idea that the Giants are being aggressive. She reports that, despite the season-ending injury to Malik Nabers, the Giants "aren't aggressively working the phones" for a wideout.

"Despite the loss of Malik Nabers, the Giants aren’t aggressively working the phones to add talent at receiver right now," Russini reported.

Of course, this doesn't mean the Giants won't make a deal, but it certainly adds doubt to the hope that New York will do something big.

New York should at least consider making a move. After all, adding an impact wide receiver would be a huge benefit to Dart, who currently has lackluster weapons with Nabers sidelined, which will undoubtedly make his job harder.

But owner John Mara also has to weigh allowing general manager Joe Schoen to sell off future assets when he might not even be back next year.

We know Schoen is probably on board with making a wide receiver trade, as his and head coach Brain Daboll's futures are directly tied to Dart's success, and the rookie is not going to be in a great position to succeed with his current crop of wideouts.
