The New York Giants need a wide receiver and the Las Vegas Raiders have one that could be the best available if he hits the trade block.
New York lost Malik Nabers for the rest of the 2025 season after he suffered a torn ACL (thanks, MetLife) in Week 4. Now, Dart and the Giants are left with Wan'Dale Robinson and Darius Slayton, the latter of whom is currently dealing with an injury.
That is just not enough firepower for Dart, whose development is paramount and also crucial to the futures of head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen.
ESPN's Bill Barnwell has proposed a trade between the Giants and the Raiders that would jettison first-round draft bust Deonte Banks and a 2026 fifth-round pick to Las Vegas for wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, a 2026 fourth-round pick and cash considerations.
I'm not sure I would typically advocate for a 2-4 team to add a 28-year-old receiver about to enter free agency, but given how much the heads of the Giants organization have riding on Dart's success in 2025 for their own futures, this might be an exception.
While I love the idea of adding Meyers in New York, I don't understand why the Raiders would be getting the lower pick in this trade, which would truly make Barnwell's proposed deal an absolute steal for the Giants.
Meyers is most definitely a logical trade candidate. He's in the final year of his deal and is not happy with the Raiders after he didn't get a contract extension during the offseason, which led to him requesting a trade.
The Raiders are on track for another lost season after a 2-4 start (one of those wins came against the lowly Tennessee Titans) and should look to deal Meyers at the deadline before he leaves for nothing next offseason.
Banks has been a bust in New York and was recently benched, so it stands to reason the Giants will look to unload him. Whether or not the Raiders will be interested in adding him remains to be seen, but Las Vegas might view Banks as someone they can fix and the Raiders do have a shaky cornerback situation.
Meyers would be just what the doctor ordered in New York. He has tallied 800 yards or more four times during his career, including a 1,000-yard campaign in 2024. Bear in mind, Meyers has routinely had terrible quarterback situations, making his production even more impressive.
Through six games this season, Meyers has posted 329 yards and is on pace for the second-best season of his career in terms of receiving production despite Geno Smith playing poorly.
Meyers has one of the best pairs of hands in the NFL and offers a reliable target for Dart and brings some veteran leadership with him, too.
If things pan out, the Giants can extend Meyers and pair him with Nabers for the foreseeable future, creating one of the better one-two punches in the league for Dart.
