Giants, Steelers among teams named in trade rumor about Packers wide receiver image

The New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly among three teams that have checked in about a possible trade for Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs.

According to Easton Butler of Packers Report, the Steelers and Giants, along with the Jacksonville Jaguars, have called the Packers about Doubs, and those calls all came as recently as last week.

"Steelers, Giants and Jaguars all called about Doubs last week," Butler reported.

While Doubs would be a great addition for all three teams, it remains to be seen if the Packers would be willing to deal him.

After all, Green Bay is already a bit short-handed at wide receiver thanks to the injury to Jayden Reed, who is on injured reserve with foot and shoulder issues. There's no telling when Reed will be back, either.

Trading Doubs, who is second on the team in receiving yards, would leave the Packers with Dontayvion Wicks, the oft-injured Christian Watson and a pair of rookies in Matthew Golden and Savion Williams, which isn't exactly an ideal situation for a team looking to compete for a Super Bowl.

That said, Doubs is also in the final year of his contract and the Packers might be comfortable enough with their current options to unload him from their crowded wide receivers room before he potentially leaves in free agency next year.

The Steelers have a dire need at the position with the team not having a true No. 2 target behind DK Metcalf. Doubs already has a connection with Aaron Rodgers from their days with the Packers, so they should have immediate chemistry.

In New York, the Giants won't have their No. 1 target for the rest of the season after Malik Nabers suffered a torn ACL, which will make rookie Jaxson Dart's job harder.

Doubs would offer an upgrade for that lackluster situation and would help put Dart in a better position to succeed.

The Jaguars are the odd team in this group, as they already have a duo of Brian Thomas Jr. and Travis Hunter, and solid depth in Parker Washington, Dyami Brown, and Tim Patrick.

Knowing that, the Giants and Steelers are far more likely to pull off a trade for Reed than the Jags are, but their interest in the Packers wideout will be heavily dependent on how his recovery is going and if he'll be back soon.
