Giants' latest contract status with John Harbaugh revealed by The Athletic image

John Harbaugh and the New York Giants are still working on the contract that would make him their new head coach.

It doesn't sound like there's anything to worry about. But it's also a little bit odd that there has yet to be a signature.

The Athletic's Ian O'Connor reported on X Friday night that this thing isn't done yet:

"Sounds like John Harbaugh & the Giants might take this deep into the night tonight, more likely tomorrow. Things are still OK. Hang in there. Still a lot to review in contract. John & Joe Schoen have gotten along. Can't see this unraveling. Both sides know way too much at stake."

Harbaugh had his pick of teams as he entered coaching free agency after 18 seasons with the Baltimore Ravens that included a Super Bowl victory.

He visited the Giants on Wednesday. He was slated to interview with the Titans on Thursday and the Falcons on Friday, but those were both called off.

Initial reports of Harbaugh's hiring with the Giants came out around midnight Wednesday into Thursday.

But reports have kept trickling out that there are things still to be figured out, with ESPN's Adam Schefter reporting earlier Thursday that it was about the "language" in the contract and not the main terms.

Reports suggested Harbaugh will get approximately $100 million over five years, which would put him right with Andy Reid ($20 million per year) as the NFL's highest-paid coaches.

That is, once this deal actually gets done.
