The New York Giants signed Jameis Winston to a two-year contract worth $8 million last offseason, but the veteran quarterback started just two games in 2025, tossing two touchdowns and two interceptions with a 56.1% completion rate.
Jaxson Dart is New York's quarterback of the future, meaning Winston will be relegated to the full-time backup role. However, Over the Cap believes there's a chance Winston won't even be on the team in 2026.
OTC listed Winston as a potential offseason cut candidate for the Giants.
New York would save $2.7 million in cap space by moving from Winston this offseason.
Though Winston didn't play much in 2025, keeping him on the roster for 2026 would be a logical move. The former No. 1 overall pick is a solid backup who would be a nice mentor to Dart.
Winston would also be a positive presence in the locker room and is more than capable of stepping in and starting a few games if needed. The 32-year-old has started 89 games in his career, holding a 36-53 record.
With Russell Wilson likely out the door, it would be wise for the Giants to keep Winston and have some stability in the quarterback room around Dart.
