When running back Cam Skattebo went down with a gruesome leg injury in Week 8, it no doubt took the air out of the New York Giants' 2025 season.
Now, that's not to say the Giants would have made the playoffs if Skattebo had stayed healthy, but the massive jolt he provided to New York's offense, along with fellow rookie Jaxson Dart, was erased in the most brutal way possible.
Skattebo suffered a right ankle dislocation, a fractured fibula and a ruptured deltoid ligament, ending his promising season early.
With the 2025 season in the books, we now turn the page to the 2026 offseason, when there will be plenty of eyes on Skattebo's recovery.
When addressing reporters on Monday as the Giants cleaned out their lockers after a 4-13 season, Skattebo revealed that his rehab is on schedule and the plan is to be available for the start of training camp.
"Cam Skattebo says his recovery is on schedule. The goal is to be ready for the start of training camp," ESPN's Jordan Raanan reported.
When asked if there might be any long-term effects following the injury, the Giants running back immediately shot that down, saying "it's not even a question" that he will return to his pre-injury form, per Ryan Dunleavy of The New York Post.
As the Giants enter an offseason of uncertainty as the team looks to find its next head coach, there is actually reason for optimism in New York.
Along with Dart and Skattebo, the Giants will be getting wide receiver Malik Nabers back from injury, the offensive line is moving in the right direction and the defense has plenty of promise.
Now, it's up to general manager Joe Schoen to find the right guy to lead this bunch, and it's a decision the Giants simply cannot mess up.
