Cam Skattebo reveals surprising NFC team he thought would draft him before Giants image

New York Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo was convinced he was headed to the West Coast during the run-up to the 2025 NFL Draft.

During a recent appearance on the St. Brown Podcast, Skattebo said he thought he was destined to be a San Francisco 49er.

"I actually thought I was going to end up going to San Francisco with that 100th pick," Skattebo said. "Vibes started getting high, lights started turning on, videos started turning on, and no phone call. So we woke up at 9:00 a.m. the next morning on Saturday, and we knew it was going to be within the first 10 picks because the Niners, the Giants, Tennessee, and somebody else had another pick back to back to back, and I knew one of those teams was going to take me. I didn't know which one. And then the Giants called."

The number of stories of players like Skattebo who've been duped by NFL franchises' pre-draft interest is endless.  Fortunately for the Giants, the 49ers didn't take Skattebo with the 100th pick, instead allowing him to fall to New York at No. 105.

For Skattebo, landing in New York is his best-case scenario. He'll immediately be part of a running back rotation that currently features Tyrone Tracy Jr., but his skill set should allow him to leapfrog Tracy early in the 2025 season as the Giants' feature back.

Had he ended up in San Francisco, he would've needed an injury to Christian McCaffrey to have any chance at meaningful playing time.
