Abdul Carter had his 'coming out party' in epic performance for Giants rookie image

A couple weeks ago, Abdul Carter was benched by the New York Giants.

On Sunday, he may have been the best defensive player on the field against the Washington Commanders

The final line for Carter looked like this:

  • 7 tackles
  • 1 sack
  • 3 tackles for loss
  • 1 QB hit
  • 2 forced fumbles
  • 1 fumble recovered

Carter's sack was actually a strip sack of Commanders QB Marcus Mariota.

After the game, veteran pass rusher Brian Burns referred to the game as Carter's "coming out party."

Carter has had an odd rookie season, not even accounting for the benching.

He's had a lot of positive pressure stats but essentially no sack or tackle for loss numbers to show for that.

But on Sunday, positive regression to the mean happened.

Carter kept putting himself in good spots, and it started to pay off.
