The New Orleans Saints beat the New York Giants for the Saints' first win of the 2025 NFL season. It was a huge relief for Saints players, as dating back to 2024, they had gone eight straight games without a win.

Leading the team to their first win since December 8th of 2024 was quarterback Spencer Rattler. He made his 11th start in the NFL, and for the first time in his NFL career, he secured a win.

After the game, Saints head coach Kellen Moore and Saints wide receiver Rashid Shaheed sang the praises of Rattler after his first win in an article from Katherine Terrell of ESPN. They both expressed how much they appreciate Rattler, indicating that the second-year quarterback has won over the locker room and could be the quarterback of the future.

"I'm super impressed by him," Shaheed said. "He's come in and he's handled everything like a pro and he comes to work every day, so I'm definitely not surprised that all the good things have been happening."

During the Saints' first win in their last nine games, Rattler connected with Shaheed on a long 87-yard touchdown. It was a great route from Shaheed, and an even better throw from Rattler down the right sideline. Shaheed said, "It felt like we were waiting on a play like that to hit for the last few weeks."

That moment ignited the Saints' comeback, and with the Giants squandering opportunities late, the Saints came out on top with a 26-14 win after scoring 23 unanswered points.

Rattler finished the day with 225 passing yards, one touchdown, and 21 completions on 31 attempts. He also added 21 rushing yards and even caught one of his own passes after a deflection, though he gained no yards on the play.

Moore also had a lot of praise for Rattler. "He's been consistent, and that's what I love about him," Moore said. "He's (doing) an awesome job. Battled through some really challenging circumstances and played a bunch of good football."

The Saints won their first game of the season, and in the process, gained a lot more confidence in Rattler. This season, he had 990 passing yards and six touchdowns with one interception in his five games.

In one less start than he had in 2024, Rattler has two more passing touchdowns, four fewer interceptions, and a passer rating of 90.4, 20 points higher than his 2024 total of 70.4.

Rattler is having a lot of success with the Saints so far this season, and while it might be premature to call Rattler the Saints' quarterback of the future, if he continues to play at this level, then the Saints might have no choice but to stick with Rattler going forward.
