The New Orleans Saints let 2025 second-round pick Tyler Shough get his first NFL start this past weekend against the Los Angeles Rams.
It ended in a fairly lopsided defeat, with the Rams coming out on top to the tune of 34-10.
Both Shough and Spencer Rattler have had varying levels of disappointing play throughout the season, and it's obvious New Orleans is going to be in the market for a quarterback with a high selection in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Saints predicted to select Fernando Mendoza first overall in 2026
In a new mock draft from CBS Sports, Ryan Wilson has the Saints selecting Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza with the first overall pick.
"Mendoza is a poised, accurate passer who has plus arm talent, consistently delivering catchable balls on time and in rhythm and excelling on layered second-level routes. He shows NFL-level field vision and coverage recognition, consistently ripping throws with anticipation," wrote Wilson.
"While not a true creator, Mendoza navigates collapsing pockets effectively and can make accurate off-platform throws, showing a calm, efficient style reminiscent of Jared Goff."
Mendoza has been a revelation in college football this year, leading the Hoosiers to a 9-0 start atop the Big 10.
His stats are equally impressive, totaling 2124 passing yards to go along with 24 touchdowns and four interceptions, with a completion percentage of 72.3%.
If head coach Kellen Moore can get his hands on a franchise signal caller, such as Mendoza, it could turn the fortune of the Saints around fairly quickly.
