Saints predicted to draft brother of NBA 1st-round pick to help Tyler Shough image

The New Orleans Saints appear committed to letting Tyler Shough prove he's their quarterback of the future.

To give him the best chance, it'd make sense for the Saints to target offensive talent with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

That's what ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. Predicts in his latest mock draft. He has the Saints taking WR Jordyn Tyson out of Arizona State.

Intriguingly, Tyson wouldn't be the first first-round pick in his own family. His brother, Jaylon, was a 2024 first-round NBA Draft pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers who just scored 39 points in a game recently.

This Tyson would be a great target for Shough.

"After rumors swirled about Chris Olave being on the trade market ahead of the deadline this season, it looks as if New Orleans is hanging onto its star wideout," Kiper writes. "However, Olave is under contract for only one more year, and even if the Saints extend him, they still need more pass-catching options for second-year quarterback Tyler Shough. Consider that Rashid Shaheed was the only other Saints wide receiver with over 300 receiving yards this season, and he was dealt at the deadline. Tyson could immediately be a red zone target for Shough thanks to his strength and ability on contested catches."

Tyson could learn from Olave in his rookie season, and then if Olave leaves in free agency, he could take over the top role for himself.

Even if the Saints wanted a different QB, there really isn't one that would make sense taking in this spot, so it's logical to go with a stud wideout.

Kiper has Tyson as his No. 2 WR off the board, after the Giants took Ohio State's Carnell Tate with the fifth pick.

Tate would also be a great grab for New Orleans if he made it to this spot.
