The New Orleans Saints have gotten some solid quarterback play out of rookie Tyler Shough since naming him the full-time starter in Week 9.

In seven appearances this season, the former Louisville standout has completed 65.2% of his passes for 1,212 yards, throwing five touchdowns and five interceptions.

But Shough is a 26-year-old NFL rookie, and some fans and analysts have concerns about his long-term development.

Kellen Moore downplays Tyler Shough's age concerns

New Orleans head coach Kellen Moore isn't worried about the age of his rookie quarterback, though, and he said as much to the media on Wednesday.

"Phillip's (Rivers) playing at some point at 44 potentially. So I think we've got a few more years. Tons of experience, tons of exposure," Moore joked to reporters.

"You see a lot of the, you can go through a lot of historical references throughout all of college football going into the NFL. And guys have played a lot of football in college football, positively and challenging situations. Guys have played a bunch of years and a bunch of experience. Those are the guys that are able to handle it. And so he hasn't played in perfect environments where you win every game and you got all these guys around you to kind of provide you with that. He's navigated a bunch of stuff and so I thought that was great."

Clearly, Moore, a former NFL quarterback himself, has no concerns about the future of Shough, regardless of his age.

With the Saints projected to pick fairly high in the 2026 NFL Draft, it will be interesting to see how Shough finishes the season, and if they feel they need to make a change at the quarterback position.
