The New Orleans Saints are in the sights of every team looking to make improvements to their roster ahead of the trade deadline.
That's because New Orleans is 1-6 and going nowhere fast. With so many holes up and down the roster, it makes sense for the Saints to sell off some of their assets for draft capital that can help push the team into the future.
While a ton of attention has been on wide receivers Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports that the Saints "would consider" trading cornerback Alontae Taylor if a team comes with a good enough offer.
This would be a surprise but is still one to watch. The Saints don't want to trade Taylor but would consider it if they receive a strong offer. He is on the radar of a few teams. Taylor is a 2026 free agent who figures to earn a big payday, and it's worth noting that the Saints have a young core of defensive backs they like in Kool-Aid McKinstry, Quincy Riley and Jonas Sanker.
Taylor has been a starter for the Saints in each season of his career, but he has not been quite as effective over the past two-plus seasons as he was during his rookie campaign.
As Fowler points out, the Saints have a promising trio of young cornerbacks in McKinstry, Riley and Sanker, so moving Taylor could make sense, especially considering he's in the final year of his contract.
There figures to be several teams in the market for cornerback help, a list that likely includes — but is not limited to — the Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles, all of whom could come calling for Taylor if he's available.
The Bills should be in search of a better option across from Christian Benford than Tre'Davious White, who has struggled mightily in his return to Buffalo.
The Bills are getting Maxwell Hairston back soon, but he's a total wild card as a rookie and there's no telling how fast he'll get acclimated after missing so much practice time.
In Detroit, the Lions have been ravaged by injuries at cornerback. Terrion Arnold and D.J. Reed are on the shelf, their backups are hurt, and their backups' backups are hurt. Enough said there.
The Eagles don't have a sure solution across from Quinyon Mitchell thanks to the struggles of Adoree' Jackson and Kelee Ringo, and the injury to Jakorian Bennett, who is a total wild card, anyway. Jackson is also now dealing with an injury.
If Taylor is put on the trade block, we wouldn't be surprised to see him land with the Eagles, Lions or Bills before the deadline passes.
