Aaron Rodgers predicted to end free agency saga by signing with lousy NFC team image

After Derek Carr announced his retirement, the New Orleans Saints are without a quarterback. While the team could look to turn to Tyler Shough, who they drafted during the 2025 NFL draft, the lack of experience on the Saints roster is a bit concerning.

For the Saints, however, waiting until the 2026 NFL draft might be the better plan, as next year's quarterback class will be better.

If the plan is for the Saints to compete, despite not playing well in recent seasons, they could look for a veteran like Aaron Rodgers, who was recently linked to the team.

"This is the big domino waiting to fall all offseason. Rodgers has been taking his sweet time making a decision, first on whether or not to even play in 2025, and then on which team to play for if he does.

"The Pittsburgh Steelers have been seen as the front-runners for his services, and it has seemed almost like a foregone conclusion that he'd go to Pittsburgh if he goes anywhere. Could New Orleans now get in the mix? It would almost certainly be a one-year bridge solution," Jared Dubin of CBS Sports wrote.

Rodgers could make sense for the Saints if they want to win games, but the better plan will likely be finding a long-term quarterback during the 2026 season.

The last thing the Saints want is to win six or seven games next year and not be in a position to draft a quarterback in the top five.

However, if they believe they have enough to compete with Rodgers, and potentially make a playoff run, this could be something that has logic behind it.
