Patriots blockbuster trade pitch lands superstar wide receiver for Drake Maye image

The New England Patriots' wide receiver corps was not great last season. However, this offseason, the team made some key additions to help Drake Maye in Year 2.

The Patriots signed Stefon Diggs and Mack Hollins. They also drafted Kyle Williams in the NFL Draft. However, they could still use a superstar at receiver. Diggs could emerge as an elite option for Maye, but he is coming off an ACL tear last year. FanSided's Romell Williams tabbed Terry McLaurin as an option for the Patriots.

McLaurin is looking for a new contract, and negotiations are not in a great spot, according to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer. McLaurin is a two-time Pro Bowler and has put together five consecutive 1,000-yard seasons.

"The Patriots are still in rebuild mode, trying to build around their franchise quarterback in Drake Maye," wrote Williams. "They signed veteran Stefon Diggs in free agency, but still don’t have a solid WR1 in a young but unproven WR room. Adding McLaurin would give New England an unexpectedly dangerous duo and offer Maye a pair of veterans who can help ease his development curve. McLaurin would step in as a leader and instant starter, something New England’s young locker room needs."

McLaurin's only season below 1,000 yards was his rookie year, when he had 919 receiving yards. Last season, with the best quarterback he has had in his career, he had 1,096 yards and a career high 13 touchdowns. He was a big part of the Washington Commanders reaching the NFC Championship Game.

McLaurin signed a three-year, $68 million deal in 2022. He is looking for a new deal before he steps on the field, in what is the final year of his current contract. The Commanders may be open to trading McLaurin if a deal is not reached.
