The Minnesota Vikings are hoping to retain defensive coordinator Brian Flores, who has done a fantastic job with the team's defense during his tenure.

However, because of that success, Flores, who also needs a new contract, is drawing interest for head-coaching vacancies around the NFL.

One job in particular to keep an eye on is the Pittsburgh Steelers'. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Flores is set to interview with the Steelers on Tuesday.

This will be Flores' second interview for the job, according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, which means he's a finalist in Pittsburgh.

Flores has been a popular name amid speculation about who Pittsburgh could hire, and it makes sense because he already has ties to Pittsburgh after serving as the linebackers coach and senior defensive assistant under Mike Tomlin in 2022.

So, Flores getting his second interview with the Steelers is bad news for the Vikings' hopes of keeping him, as he should be considered a legitimate candidate for the job. And, lest we forget, Flores is a candidate for at least one other opening, also.

But Schefter did provide some positivity for the Vikings when it comes to Flores. He added that Minnesota "would have a good chance" to bring Flores back if he doesn't land a head-coaching gig somewhere else.

"Minnesota has been pushing to bring back Flores, and if he doesn’t land a head coaching job, would have a good chance at retaining him," Schefter reported.

On top of his head-coach candidacy, Flores has also gotten a look from the Washington Commanders for their defensive coordinator job.

The Vikings cannot block Flores from making a lateral move since he isn't under contract, so that has led many to wonder if he might leave for another defensive coordinator job.

Based on Schefter's report, we would say Flores is likely to return to Minnesota if he can't land a head-coaching gig elsewhere.
