Kate Scott’s career has been known for breaking barriers, and later this month, she’ll add another to the list.

Westwood One has assigned Scott to call the Sept. 28 matchup between the Minnesota Vikings and Pittsburgh Steelers in Dublin, Ireland. The game, part of the NFL’s international series, will mark the first time a woman has ever handled play-by-play for one of the network’s regular-season broadcasts. Scott will be joined in the booth by former Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph.

While the TV call belongs to NFL Network’s crew of Joe Davis, Greg Olsen, Pam Oliver, and Jamie Erdahl, Scott’s historic radio broadcast is set to air nationwide on Westwood One.

Why Scott?

Scott has been calling Seattle Seahawks preseason games since 2023, an experience that fit perfectly with Westwood One’s needs. The network wanted someone who could handle a high-profile international game without conflicting with her NBA duties on Sixers broadcasts.

Mike Eaby, Westwood One Sports’ vice president and executive producer, said Scott was the obvious choice. “She’s done terrific work on Seahawks preseason games and has experience with the 49ers on radio,” Eaby explained. “When we needed someone for the Dublin game, she checked every box. She’s informative, entertaining, and makes radio sound easy.”

This is not her first, first

This latest opportunity is only the newest chapter in Scott’s trailblazing run.

  • In 2016, she became the first woman to call NFL preseason games on Bay Area radio with the San Francisco 49ers.

  • In 2017, she was the first woman to handle football play-by-play on the Pac-10 Network.

  • In 2020, she led the call for the first NHL broadcast in the U.S. produced entirely by women.

  • She has also called Olympic events, Division I college football, NHL, NBA, and more.

On top of all that, Scott is already a familiar voice to basketball fans as the play-by-play announcer for the Philadelphia 76ers, where she became just the second woman ever hired full-time in that role for an NBA team.

More on Scott

Westwood One’s main NFL booth still features Kevin Harlan and Kurt Warner on Monday nights and the Super Bowl. Kevin Kugler leads Thursday night coverage with rotating analysts, while Ryan Radtke and Mike Golic Sr. handle Sunday Night Football.

But when Week 4 rolls around, all eyes will be on Dublin, where Kate Scott’s voice will make history in a game that stretches far beyond the field.
