The Miami Dolphins have moved on from both their head coach, Mike McDaniel, and general manager Chris Grier this season.
While the McDaniel decision came after the season, Grier was fired in the middle of the year, and unsurprisingly, the GM job is expected to be filled before the head coaching job. But, when will that job be filled?
According to an ESPN insider, Jeff Darlington, the Dolphins have a deadline they're planning to fill the GM opening by. For fans hoping for a quick decision, expect the Dolphins to fill this role before the NFL playoffs begin on Saturday.
Dolphins expect to fill GM role before NFL playoffs start
"I'm told the Dolphins expect to make a decision on their new GM by tomorrow," Darlington writes. "They met with interim GM Champ Kelly on Wednesday, and the three other candidates (Chad Alexander, Josh Williams, and Jon-Eric Sullivan) flew into South Florida last night for in-person interviews that are taking place today."
The Dolphins' plan is clear. With three interviews scheduled for Thursday with outside voices, the Dolphins and owner Stephen Ross are aiming to make a decision by Friday, the day before the NFL playoff start.
All of these potential options have some buzz, with Williams and Sullivan being two great choices for the Dolphins, and Kelly being a familiar face for the front office.

But, Alexander, thanks to his connection with John Harbaugh, might be the best choice for the Dolphins. He could help bring in Harbaugh after he was fired from the Baltimore Ravens job.
Adding Alexander, who's a solid general manager in his own right, would help the Dolphins hire the best head coach amid a lackluster hiring cycle this offseason.
But, regardless of who the Dolphins decide to go with, they're planning to make such a decision by Friday, according to Darlington's report.
Dolphins fans won't have to wait long to see who will be the architect to help them move on from the bloated contracts of Tyreek Hill, and especially Tua Tagovailoa, after the McDaniel era has come to an end.
