There might be no quarterback room that will draw as much attention this offseason as what the Miami Dolphins do with their current room.
Tua Tagovailoa might be released or traded, and in the worst-case scenario, he could sit on the bench for the 2026 season. But his time in Miami as the starter is over, and Quinn Ewers will finish out the 2025 season as the Miami starter.
After his impressive Week 17 performance, should Ewers get a chance next season to start? ESPN writer Marcel Louis-Jacques believes that Ewers deserves a shot to start next season and should be able to compete for the job.
Dolphins' Quinn Ewers deserves chance to start in 2025
"For at least a half, Ewers looked like a revelation for the Dolphins' offense, throwing for 144 yards and two touchdowns." Louis-Jacques writes. "Fans will want to temper their expectations after next week's game against a Patritos team that may rest its starters, but Ewers flashed enough to at least compete for the starting job next season."
Ewers wasn't the best quarterback of Week 17, nor was he lighting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense up to such a lofty degree, but he showed enough promise.
For a team like Miami, about to be saddled with massive cap hits thanks to Tagovailoa, whether they cut, trade, or hold onto him, Ewers 7th-round rookie contract is a huge help.

With such a cheap quarterback on the roster for the next three seasons, Ewers, at worst, could be a bridge to their next quarterback as the Dolphins try to get off the massive cap hits from Tagovailoa's contract.
This week, Ewers went 14 of 22 for 172 yards and two touchdowns, throwing no interceptions, and taking two sacks for 19 yards lost.
It was a huge step in the right direction for Ewers, and while he slowed down in the second half, his play was good enough for the Dolphins to be encouraged.
Louis-Jacques, amid this performance, believes that Ewers should get a chance to compete for the starting job in 2026. With his cheap deal and this week's performances, giving the Texas Longhorns rookie a chance in 2026 to start makes some sense.
