The Miami Dolphins’ decision to hire a new general manager this week appears to put an end to speculation surrounding John Harbaugh.

“Let's pump the brakes on that,” Fox NFL insider Jay Glazer said Saturday ahead of the wild-card round.

Miami hired Green Bay Packers executive Jon-Eric Sullivan, ending days of rumors that the franchise might bring in Los Angeles Chargers assistant general manager Chad Alexander, who has close connections with the longtime Baltimore Ravens coach.

Glazer said Sullivan is expected to explore candidates with Green Bay ties, including former head coach Mike McCarthy and current defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley. Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph is also a candidate. He previously served as Miami’s defensive coordinator in 2016.

Glazer also noted that Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak had a Zoom interview scheduled with the Dolphins on Saturday and the Dolphins already requested an interview with Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula, grandson of legendary Dolphins coach Don Shula.

Still, there remains an outside possibility that Miami makes a strong push for Harbaugh and that he may be open to the move. Harbaugh and Dolphins owner Stephen Ross are both University of Michigan alumni.

The Dolphins are entering a transitional phase as the organization looks to move on from Tua Tagovailoa and Tyreek Hill and reset over the next year or two. With Sullivan now in place as the architect of that future, Miami appears poised for significant changes in the months ahead.
