While the Miami Dolphins were tracking to earn their first victory of 2025 in Week 4, they saw one of their most critical pieces go down with an injury.
Wide receiver Tyreek Hill, a Dolphin since 2022 and a 5-time First-Team All-Pro selection, was carted off the field against the New York Jets following a gruesome leg injury. Hill was in good spirits after getting on the cart, smiling and clapping to fans, but the nature of the injury appeared severe as he was immediately taken to the locker room.

Hill, 31, remains one of the NFL's elite talents at wide receiver despite a slight decline in numbers over the past two seasons. With the injury coming to his knee, he could face a long journey to return to the gridiron in the future.
Here's the latest information on Hill's injury and potential return timeline.

Tyreek Hill injury update
Hill's leg injury came with just over 13 minutes remaining in the third quarter against the Jets. He already had six catches for 67 yards in the game, but after catching his sixth pass from Tua Tagovailoa near the right sideline, Hill's legs got wrapped up by cornerback Malachi Moore.
Hill twisted as he fell to the ground, and after Moore moved his arms away, the receiver's left leg was out of place. The cart immediately came out for Hill, and he acknowledged Dolphins fans as he was taken to the locker room.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Hill was officially tagged with a knee injury by Miami, and he was then taken to a local hospital for imaging, evaluation and observation.
Schefter and Ian Rapoport then reported that the Dolphins believe that Hill dislocated his knee. Rapoport noted that the injury is "far worse than a dislocated knee cap," as it "often comes with multiple ligament tears."

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel confirmed postgame that it was a dislocated knee for Hill, adding that the receiver will stay overnight at the hospital and undergo further tests.

How long will Tyreek Hill be out?
McDaniel confirmed that Hill dislocated his knee, but without yet knowing the full extent of the injury, there is no official return timeline for the Dolphins receiver. The expectation is that he will be out moving forward though, given the nature of his exit against the Jets.
Hill's exact recovery timeline will depend on the severity of his knee dislocation and damage to surrounding ligaments. However, according to ESPN, an official diagnosis of a dislocated knee was set to be season-ending for Hill, which McDaniel confirmed. The receiver isn't expected to return in 2025.
According to Burnham Sports Medicine, a typical patella dislocation will usually result in a six-to-eight week timeline; however, "in severe cases where there is significant damage to the ligaments or tendons around the knee," which is expected with Hill, then surgical treatment can be necessary. A timeline then depends on what procedures are performed.
Hill's recovery timeline will have to be determined after the damage to his leg is officially assessed, but he's likely to miss an extensive period, rather than just a few games.
