After the Miami Dolphins fired head coach Mike McDaniel at the end of the 2025 regular season, the offensive-minded coach is expected to become the Los Angeles Chargers' new offensive coordinator.

This isn't stopping McDaniel from still looking to become a head coach for one of the five remaining vacancies throughout the NFL.

According to The Athletic's Dianna Russini, McDaniel is still interviewing for head coaching positions. He is set to meet with the Buffalo Bills on Friday.

Why is Mike McDaniel still able to seek a head coaching position?

Although recent reports have said that Mike McDaniel is expected to become the new offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers, he can still seek a head coaching job.

A deal with the Chargers is yet to be finalized, allowing McDaniel to still interview with other teams to be a head coach.

The Buffalo Bills, Pittsburgh Steelers, Las Vegas Raiders, Arizona Cardinals, and Cleveland Browns still have vacancies, but McDaniel has already backed out of interviews with the Browns.

If the former Dolphins head coach is unable to get an offer, he'll most likely land with the Chargers for the 2026 season alongside head coach Jim Harbaugh.

Los Angeles is also seeking a new defensive coordinator after Jesse Minter agreed to a five-year deal to become the new lead man with the Baltimore Ravens.
