Dolphins make Troy Aikman advisory decision amid head coaching search image

After the Miami Dolphins hired Jon-Eric Sullivan to be their new general manager after Chris Grier was fired mid-season, the Dolphins' next step is to bring in a new head coach.

There are plenty of interesting candidates this offseason, and the Dolphins will try to find their new coach to lead them into a new era. And after Troy Aikman helped the Dolphins find their new GM, the Dallas Cowboys legend isn't going anywhere.

According to Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald, the Dolphins are keeping Aikman on as an advisor for the head coaching search after his help in the GM search.

Dolphins to keep Troy Aikman for HC search

"Per source, Troy Aikman will continue with the Dolphins in an advisory role during the head coach search," Jackson reports. "New GM Jon-Eric Sullivan is leading the search with over Steve Ross, but Troy will stay on to advise in a similar fashion throughout the process."

Miami was able to land one of the best general manager candidates this offseason, and with Sullivan now set, the head coach search is getting underway.

While they could've moved forward without Aikman, the pairing clearly went well for both sides, as he's staying on to help the Dolphins bring in their new head coach.

Harbaugh is a strong option, with his ties to Ross. Even though Chad Alexander, who has ties to Harbaugh, wasn't hired, the Dolphins are still one destination for the longtime Baltimore Ravens head coach.

Kevin Stefanski is another name to keep in mind as an experienced head coach who could be on his way to Miami. For now, they've not begun making the rounds, but Stefanski and Harbaugh are widely viewed as the best options.

Aikman won't be the one deciding which candidate is the best for Miami, but his advice can help Sullivan, in a general manager's job for the first time, make the best decision.

There are plenty of interesting names to consider, and the Dolphins will likely be busy in the coming weeks as they try to bring in a new head coach to lead them into a new era beyond Tua Tagovailoa.
