The Miami Dolphins fired Mike McDaniel to open up their head coaching job this offseason, and they've been searching for their new coach.
John Harbaugh is going to the New York Giants, while the Atlanta Falcons seemingly have their sights set on Kevin Stefanski. But, they're not the only teams that have narrowed down their search.
According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Dolphins have a head coaching candidate emerge as a frontrunner for their job. Fittingly, it's someone new GM Jon-Eric Sullivan has worked with in Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Halfley.
Frontrunner for Dolphins HC job is Packers' Hafley
"Packers DC Jeff Hafley has emerged as a frontrunner for the Dolphins head coaching job, per sources," Pelissero reports. "No final decision made. More interviews are scheduled. Four other teams have requested second interviews with Hafley. But he appears to be the leading candidate in Miami."
After the Dolphins hired Sullivan to be their general manager, this possibility seemed like one of the more likely outcomes this offseason.
Hafley helped turn the Packers' defense into one of the most feared units this season, and if it weren't for the season-ending injury to Micah Parsons and the mid-game injury to their star linebacker, the Packers might've been able to beat the Chicago Bears in the Wild Card.

This hire for Miami isn't confirmed just yet, but this report suggests that the soon-to-be former Packers defensive coordinator is a very strong candidate for the Dolphins' job.
There is a very interesting impact the hire of Hafley would have on the defense, as Anthony Weaver might not stick in Miami, as he could instead join a new team to be their defensive coordinator, or even their head coach.
But, with nothing official just yet, this report only reveals that Hafley is the frontrunner for the Dolphins job. Something could change in the coming days, but for now, the Dolphins look poised to reunite Sullivan and Halfley in Miami in a fitting hire for the Dolphins.
